Creating Leaders

The Origins

The idea of JeetoBharat was born in 2013. Our founder, Sudhir Gupta, was a UPSC aspirant who cleared the Civil Services examination in 2011. As a limited service preference candidate who only opted for the IAS, he chose not to join the Armed Forces Headquarters he was assigned to. Instead, he channeled his experience into starting an eLearning company, creating the flagship product JeetoBharat to help future aspirants navigate the grueling exam preparation.

The Motivation: Why we built this

JeetoBharat roughly translates to "Win India." Any UPSC aspirant knows that the bureaucracy forms the permanent executive that literally runs the nation. The decisions taken by bureaucrats and the sincerity with which they implement projects have a direct bearing on making our nation prosperous and happy.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination, with its British roots, has not changed much in terms of rigor, breadth, and depth of knowledge expected—many of them for good reasons. The examination cycle itself, from Prelims to the Personality Test, spans a year. Add a year of preparation, and the minimum prep cycle spans two years. Aspirants rarely give up, often exhausting all their attempts to make their dream of becoming an officer come true. So, the average time spent by aspirants can easily range from 5 to 10 years depending on the quota.

We live in a fast-paced world where graduates get placed in the corporate world with high-paying salaries while in the final year of their graduation. Losing their prime 2 to 5 years preparing for this exam is not something many graduates want to consider and it can become a deterrent. But India—Bharat—should not lose out on talent. We need honest, sincere, talented, and passionate officers to man the important positions in our country.

This was the motivation: instead of spending a lot of money moving to Delhi, living in decrepit rooms in Rajender Nagar, and paying exorbitant rent after graduating, why not start preparing virtually in the early years of graduation? This will give sufficient time to prepare and try their luck once in their final year or just a year after graduation.

The Reality of the Exam

Remember that only around 50 to 60 candidates from the General Merit can become IAS officers every year. So, the exam results themselves are not a reflection of your talent. The exam is not foolproof in the sense that it can select the right talent. It is more of an elimination strategy where the number of candidates drops from around 350,000 to 10,000 from Prelims to Mains, 10,000 to 1,000 from Mains to Personality Test, and finally down to the merit list.

What does this mean for your career?

It means you always need to have a Plan B and play this out strategically.

The First Chapter & Lessons Learned

The JeetoBharat of 2011 grew from a team of 3 to 30, bootstrapped close to 3 crore INR and created a wonderful product building both the platform and the content in-house for more than a year. The plan was that it would start selling like hotcakes once launched.

That was not the case. Educational products take time to build trust with learners. I had not anticipated this need for working capital for 1, 2, or more years, where the aspirants would use the product, become successful (hopefully), and spread the word. I was a first-generation entrepreneur and these were my honest mistakes. I have learnt a lot since then.

The Resurrection with AI

My own life and professional career is a testimony about the journey of a UPSC aspirant who did not make it into the services. I am content with my life and have been able to provide social mobility for my family—from living in a 1-room house with no toilet to living in a lush 5-bedroom bungalow. This is not boasting but just a concrete example to help you relate to my circumstances. I have lived and worked across the USA and Canada, have two master's degrees, and continue to flourish professionally.

This version of JeetoBharat is my attempt to resurrect it with AI features as the original motivation still holds. This venture is not for making more money but for a cause, and at the same time, I am not going bankrupt for this cause. So, the fees associated have been carefully arrived at to sustain this venture.

Happy Learning, and I hope you join the Civil Services, leverage the multiple opportunities, and solve the numerous challenges of Maa Bharati.
