Andhra Pradesh Government Initiates Comprehensive Action Plan for Aqua Farmers

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the development of a comprehensive action plan aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by the state's aqua farmers. As a leading contributor to India’s blue economy, Andhra Pradesh’s aquaculture sector is vital for both domestic food security and export earnings. However, farmers in the region have long grappled with issues such as high input costs, volatile market prices, disease outbreaks, and inadequate access to institutional credit. The proposed initiative focuses on a two-pronged approach: strengthening the implementation of existing central-government-sponsored schemes and introducing state-specific interventions to bridge existing gaps. By coordinating with the Union government, the state aims to streamline the delivery of subsidies, improve cold-chain infrastructure, and enhance the efficacy of technical support services.
