DRDO Successfully Flight-Tests Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone in indigenous artillery technology with the successful flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR). Launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, the test was designed to evaluate the system's performance at a user-defined minimum range of 60 km. During the mission, the rocket successfully executed all planned in-flight manoeuvres, demonstrating high-precision accuracy in striking the designated target. The Pinaka weapon system, originally developed as a multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) system, has undergone a transformative evolution. The transition from an unguided rocket system to a 'Guided' variant represents a paradigm shift in India's artillery capabilities. By integrating advanced navigation and control systems, the LRGR significantly enhances the lethality and operational efficiency of the Indian Army. This development is a testament to the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, reducing reliance on foreign imports for critical precision-strike munitions.
