Government Operationalizes 'VB-G RAM G' Act to Bolster Rural Employment

The Government of India has officially operationalized the 'Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin)' (VB-G RAM G) Act, effective July 1, 2026. This legislative milestone marks a significant evolution in India’s rural employment framework, aiming to provide a more robust safety net for the rural workforce. By increasing the statutory employment guarantee from 100 to 125 days per rural household, the government seeks to address seasonal unemployment and enhance the purchasing power of the rural populace. The initiative is backed by a substantial budgetary allocation of over ₹95,692 crore for the Central share in the 2026-27 fiscal year. This financial commitment underscores the government's focus on 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) by ensuring that rural development remains inclusive and poverty-alleviation efforts are adequately funded. The Act is designed not only to provide immediate wage employment but also to create durable community assets that can stimulate long-term rural economic growth.
