India Champions Women-Led Grassroots Governance at BRICS Ministerial Meeting

As part of its BRICS Chairship, India is hosting the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting on July 8–9, 2026, in Kochi, Kerala. The summit serves as a strategic platform to deliberate on the 'women-led development' paradigm, a core pillar of India’s current governance philosophy. A significant highlight of the event is the showcasing of India’s Panchayati Raj institutions as a global benchmark for grassroots governance, demonstrating how the reservation of seats for women has transformed local decision-making and social empowerment. The meeting focuses on critical themes essential for achieving gender parity in the Global South, including digital and financial inclusion, the promotion of women-led entrepreneurship, and the pivotal role of women in climate action and food security. By sharing India’s experiences with initiatives like the Self-Help Group (SHG) movement and digital literacy programs, the forum aims to foster cross-border collaboration among BRICS nations to address systemic barriers to women's participation in the economy and public life.
