India’s Green Energy Transition: Achieving the 3% Compressed Biogas (CBG) Blending Milestone

GS3GS2

India is on track to meet its 3% Compressed Biogas blending target with CNG by 2026 under the SATAT scheme. This initiative bolsters energy security and promotes a circular economy by converting agricultural waste into clean fuel.

India’s energy landscape is witnessing a transformative shift as the nation remains on course to meet its 3% Compressed Biogas (CBG) blending target for the transport sector by 2026. This progress, primarily driven under the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) scheme, represents a critical step in diversifying India’s energy basket and reducing its heavy reliance on imported Natural Gas. Compressed Biogas is produced through the anaerobic decomposition of organic waste, such as agricultural residue, cattle dung, and municipal solid waste. By purifying this biogas to contain over 90% methane, it becomes chemically identical to Natural Gas, allowing for seamless blending with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) used in vehicles.
