The Government of Gujarat has embarked on an ambitious project to construct a life-size, functional replica of a Harappan-era town. This initiative aims to provide an immersive educational experience, allowing visitors to walk through ancient markets, observe reconstructed dockyards, and understand the sophisticated urban planning that defined the Indus Valley Civilization (IVC). By recreating the grid-pattern streets, advanced drainage systems, and maritime infrastructure characteristic of sites like Lothal and Dholavira, the project seeks to bridge the gap between archaeological research and public consciousness. Historically, the Harappan civilization is celebrated for its unparalleled urban planning, standardized brick sizes, and extensive trade networks.
