The Odisha government has recently operationalized the fifth installment of the CM-KISAN scheme, transferring ₹833 crore directly into the bank accounts of approximately 41.36 lakh beneficiaries. This targeted intervention focuses on small and marginal farmers, as well as landless agricultural households, ensuring they possess the necessary capital to procure essential agricultural inputs—such as high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides—ahead of the 2026-27 Rabi cropping season. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to mitigating the financial vulnerabilities inherent in small-scale farming. By providing direct liquidity, the government aims to reduce the reliance of these farmers on informal credit markets, which often charge exorbitant interest rates.
