The launch of the 'GARUD' high-resolution binoculars by India Optel Limited (IOL), a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU), represents a strategic pivot in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. Developed by the Ordnance Factory in Dehradun, this initiative underscores the government's broader objective of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' by demonstrating that sophisticated optical technologies, once restricted to military applications, can be successfully adapted for the civilian sector.
