C-DOT and IIT Jodhpur Collaboration: Advancing AI-Driven 5G/6G Network Management

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier R&D center of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has entered into a strategic agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur. This partnership, established under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF), aims to develop an 'AI-driven Automated Management Framework for 5G and Beyond Networks.'

As telecommunication networks transition from 5G to 6G, the complexity of managing massive data volumes and ultra-low latency requirements increases significantly. Traditional manual network management is becoming inadequate. The collaboration focuses on building advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) frameworks for automated fault detection, performance monitoring, and service management. By leveraging AI, the system can predict potential network failures and optimize resource allocation in real-time without human intervention.

A key component of this project is the establishment of a real-time testbed for 5G and beyond. This testbed will serve as a foundation for testing diverse use-cases, including smart city infrastructure, remotely operated vehicles, and industrial automation. The initiative is designed to reduce the operational expenditure (OPEX) for service providers while ensuring high quality of service (QoS) for end-users.

From a policy perspective, this collaboration is a significant step toward the 'Bharat 6G Vision,' which emphasizes India's leadership in global telecom standards. It aligns with the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative by fostering indigenous R&D and reducing dependence on foreign technology providers for critical network infrastructure. Furthermore, the use of the TTDF highlights the government's commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry to create a robust domestic technological ecosystem.
