Government Intensifies PM-PRANAM to Promote Sustainable Agriculture

The Government of India is intensifying the implementation of the PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness Generation, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM). Launched to address the critical issue of excessive chemical fertilizer usage, the scheme represents a strategic shift toward sustainable agriculture and long-term food security.

Excessive reliance on chemical fertilizers, particularly urea, has led to soil degradation, nutrient imbalance, and increased fiscal burden due to high subsidy outgo. PM-PRANAM seeks to reverse this trend by incentivizing states to adopt balanced fertilization practices. Under this initiative, the central government provides financial assistance to states that demonstrate a reduction in the consumption of chemical fertilizers. The savings generated from the reduced subsidy burden are shared with the states, which can then utilize these funds for promoting organic farming, soil health rejuvenation, and awareness campaigns among the farming community.
