Redefining India’s Global Trajectory: The Philosophy of Service-Oriented Development

In a recent discourse on India’s evolving role in the international order, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale emphasized that the nation’s global ascent is fundamentally distinct from traditional models of power projection. Rather than pursuing a path of hegemony or dominance, he argued that India’s rise is anchored in the philosophy of 'Seva' (service). This perspective suggests that India’s soft power and global influence are derived from its capacity to contribute to global welfare, stability, and humanitarian efforts, positioning the country as a 'Vishwa Mitra' (friend of the world). Beyond the international dimension, the discourse highlighted the necessity of internal consolidation. Hosabale advocated for the creation of a 'vigilant society'—a concept that transcends mere security concerns to encompass social cohesion. He stressed that for India to sustain its growth, it must address deep-seated social discrimination and ensure that development reaches the grassroots level. This approach calls for a bottom-up mobilization where local communities take ownership of their security and social welfare, thereby reducing reliance on state machinery alone and fostering a sense of collective responsibility.
