As India continues to prioritize its 'Neighbourhood First' policy, the recent diplomatic outreach to Bangladesh marks a critical juncture in regional economic integration. With a high-level visit by the Bangladeshi leadership anticipated in November 2026, the Indian government is proactively seeking to address structural bottlenecks that have historically hindered bilateral trade. The proposal by the Indian Deputy High Commissioner to establish a dedicated Business-to-Business (B2B) task force with the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) is a strategic move to institutionalize private sector cooperation. For India, Bangladesh remains a vital partner in the Bay of Bengal region. The current focus on removing both tariff and non-tariff barriers is essential to move beyond traditional trade patterns and foster a more integrated supply chain.
