Space-Tech in Governance: Assam’s Initiative for State-Specific Earth Observation

The Assam government is currently in the final stages of selecting a private-sector partner to develop and launch 'AssamSAT', a pioneering initiative that positions the state as a leader in sub-national space-tech integration. By transitioning from a passive consumer of satellite data to an active owner of an earth observation system, the state aims to revolutionize its administrative capabilities. This move represents a significant paradigm shift in how regional governments leverage cutting-edge technology to address localized challenges. The primary objective of AssamSAT is to facilitate evidence-based governance. With a dedicated satellite, the state will gain real-time, high-resolution monitoring capabilities over its complex geographical and environmental features.
